The article considers the problem complex associated with the deployment of solid domestic waste landfills in Russia including the Moscow region. The composition, structure and impact on the ecosystems of the landfills are briefly described. The questions on the policy of establishing the new landfills and alternative solutions to the problem of solid domestic waste recycling are analyzed.
